2.1 Reasons Stella chose fashion design

There are several reasons why Stella chose fashion design other than other hundreds available jobs. It is known that a fashion designer can spend every second to master the skills of beauty and make a passionate life. When the models a designer creates attract consumers’ attention, these models are so shining. Although they wear the most beautiful and luxurious dress with every consumer admiring their dress and admiring the model job, it is the fashion designer who creates the fashion.

However, Stella McCartney became a fashion stylist for two reasons other than the common reasons for this job. On one hand, the most significant factor pursuing for the career of a fashion designer is the influence of her parents who were also artists (Marie-Louise G & Jane W., 2016). Her father, Paul McCartney, is a singer-songwriter and composer of famous band, Beatles, and her mother, Linda McCartney, is an American photographer (Lake M. &Parke P. , 2014) She's the daughter of a Beatle, fashion designer of everyone from Madonna to the British Olympic team, recipient of a medal from Queen Elizabeth, and counts Kate Moss among her friends. Stella travelled around the world since she was a girl with her parents. Despite her parents’ fame, the parents wanted their children to have a normal and happy life without any interferes. On the other hand, the second reason for a designer career is that she can mix up the different fashion styles to give consumers more comfortable, younger, energy and more confidence in cloth choices (the guardian, 2016). Perhaps this could be put down to McCartney’s continual ability to translate her own lifestyle as a mother and businesswoman into the clothes she creates. She said as much backstage – the effortless evening wear was down to her interest in “day to night”. She added: “I don’t want to have to change.”

2.2 Animal cruelty and fashion effect

It is a trend to make the extravagant and luxurious cloth using animal furs. But many customers could not see the devastating harm we take to animals and could not clearly understand why leather products are harmful. Stella McCartney is a lifelong vegetarian and does not use any fur or leather in her designs (Hoskins, 2015). In an industry where designers rarely take an admirable position on anything, Stella McCartney’s opposition to animal cruelty has been consistent and vocal.. Stella is a supporter of animal rights and she is the only high end designer who makes no leather, fur handbags nor shoes (IMDb, 2008). The fashion designer, who is a strict animal rights activist, was devastated when she realised that one of her bras was used in an advert for Hockley, a fur boutique She uses the animal-free alternatives in all her design works. For example, her Falabella bags, which feature a chain detail along the edge, are hugely popular among young ladies and this brand enjoyed increasing in the market profit in London despite the fierce fashion market competition (the guardian, 2016). The latest financial results for McCartney’s brand, for the year ending 2014, saw profits in the UK rise by 22.7% She has been upholding her ‘no animal’ principle, using the animal-free alternatives and been a strict animal right activist up to now. Stella McCartney regards using leather to make a handbag as cruel and blood. It’s not modern nor innovation propellant. If people or designer didn’t care the millions of animals killed for fashion, it’s not sustainable.

2.3 Stella’s business and success nowadays

There are several key factors for Stella McCartney’s success in fashion design nowadays.

First of all, she could use some human resources to expand her fame. When she opened her first fashion show, her graduation runway show, she invited her famous friends and supermodels, Kate Moss, Yasmin Le Bon and Naomi Campbell, to attend for free (Pritchard J, 2017). Top models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Yasmin Le Bon all walked in Stella's final student catwalk back in 1995, marking her graduation from Central St Martin's. Secondly, she has been sticking to the ethical fashion. If Stella McCartney would agree to make fur and leather products, she would have made profit five times than the reality. But she still persists in ethical rule and rejecting the use of animal fur nor leather (The Telegraph, 2016). Instead, she devoted herself to innovating and using recycling cashmere and other recycled materials. She wants to create comfort clothes and reduce waste and cruel fashion way with the hope to change the fashion industry (PETA, 2011). Nowadays, Stella McCartney’s business is successful with the sales volume keeping rising after many years of foundation. An example for her success in fashion industry is that she was appointed as the creative director in Adidas after a long-term partnership and designed Team GB kit for London 2012 Olympics (the telegraph, 2012). Also, she has many collaborations with other famous fashion groups such as H&M. Stella McCartney has dedicated all her time to push the fashion innovation in the future. With all her efforts, it is no wonder that Stella became a successful fashion designer in fashion industry with a great influence.
