It is a common sense that nowadays people have a variety of power stations to generate electricity so that they can deal with a series of issues with the existence of power lines. However, the great majority of human beings begin to realize that they need clean energies to replace coal power generation in order to protect the environment, such as hydroelectric power generation, photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, etc. Only in this way can the environment that people rely on to live not be polluted so as not to influence people’s health in any way. Under this situation, it is an inevitable trend for people to figure out how to better take advantage of the renewable energies to benefit their daily life so that they can smoothly tackle all their daily necessities without causing potential risks for the environment. Therefore the following will report on how to build a home in an extremely remote area which is away from power lines, during which what kinds of energy that can match my new house will be elaborated on. It is hoped that this report can help people learn more about renewable energies so that they can all live well even without the supply of electricity from the power stations.

Report on How to Build a House in an Extremely Remote Area

If I am building a new house in an extremely remote area which is away from power lines, then I have no choice but to choose some sustainable and renewable energy to tackle all my daily necessities. Otherwise, I may be unable to survive if I make no efforts to generate electricity to support cooling, heating, lighting, cooking fuel and so on. It can be easily understood in that such an extremely remote area has no access to electricity from the power stations because it is away from power lines, which determines that the sustainable and renewable energies are what can be turned to for help.

First and foremost comes how I would plan for all of my necessities, such as heating and cooling the building. As for the supply of heating and cooling, I would like to choose the solar thermal energy or the wind energy to generate electricity because these two kinds of energy are both sustainable and they are good for the environment. But what has to be pointed out is that the solar thermal energy is a better choice when compared with the wind energy. On the one hand, the solar thermal energy is sufficient to be provided at all times during the year and it does not like the wind energy that can only be applied when there is wind. And on the other hand, the solar thermal energy is easier to generate electricity because its equipment is unsophisticated and it is easier to be used when compared with the wind energy. So a fair knowledge can be obtained that the solar thermal energy should be considered at the first place when it calls for heating and cooling the house.

When it comes to the detailed application of the solar thermal energy for cooling and heating the house, the principle is that the solar thermal energy is taking effect as long as you feel warm in the sun or the sun makes the room temperature increase (U.S. Department of Energy. 2016). As a matter of fact, there are many ways that can be used to effectively use the solar energy to heat water, generate electricity, supply heating for the house and so on. Detailed speaking, if the solar energy would like to be used to generate electricity for heating the house, then it calls for the use of the solar panels on the roof to gather sunlight and absorb the sun’s energy. Later on, it can convert it to the electrical energy for daily use in various aspects. 

In addition, what is a must to mention is that the electricity that is generated by the solar energy has to be stored up with batteries because there won’t be sunshine all the time. In this way, the electricity that has been stored up can be well used for different purposes even if there is no sunshine. But what is a pity to say is that the cost for installing a solar power generation system is rather high out of its having to involve in the installation of the solar panels, batteries together with some other required parts. The components of the solar energy systems can be mainly divided into the below ones: the solar panel, the ground wire, batteries, the socket, the charge controller, the safe, the switch, the fluorescent lamp, etc. (Rik DeGunther. 2016).

Fortunately, the sunshine is free of charge to be used and it can be endlessly recycling used, contributing to its asking for no further cost of operation and maintenance of such system once it is installed. It is added that the biggest cost for maintenance of the solar energy system is to replace the battery once every three to five years together with replacing the solar panels when they are damaged (Solar Energy Systems, Inc. 2016). From this, we can readily predict that the solar energy system is really ideal equipment for cooling and heating the house. Besides, the simple solar water heater is also a feasible way to make the best use of the solar energy and it costs less when compared with the solar energy system. With the details about how I would plan for all of my necessities such as heating and cooling the building being mentioned at length in the above, what follows is about how I could provide light at all times during the year. As for providing light, my top priority is the methane lamp to be used for illumination. Another choice for lighting is stool. The reason why I would prefer these two means for providing light is because they are suitable for land because the house is in an extremely remote area which is away from power lines. And the aforementioned two means for providing light are actually the concrete embodiment of the bioenergy.

Just as what has been mentioned in the above that the solar thermal energy can be used to generate electricity, it can be found that the solar thermal energy can also be used for providing lighting at the same time. In this sense, I can say that the solar thermal energy is definitely a kind of energy that can be used for many different aspects for my new house in an extremely remote area. Apart from the multi functions of the solar thermal energy, another element of why such energy can be my preference as well results from its having taken the sustainability into consideration. The case is that the solar thermal energy has taken the environmental issues seriously so that the environment won’t be impacted in the end. The great majority of human beings all have the awareness that the emission of the carbon dioxide will cause the greenhouse effect so that the global temperature will increase in the due time and the melting glaciers will cause the coastal countries to be submerged, resulting in the death of a large number of people at last. In the meantime, the emission of the sulfur dioxide will cause acid rain and it will corrode countless buildings of people, putting enumerable people homeless finally. 

Then what follows is how I would provide cooking fuel. To put it more specifically, the biogas that can be produced by bioenergy can provide gas for cooking. Or maybe it can be put in another way that bioenergy is really a rare energy that is the most appropriate for providing cooking fuel. The energy in the biomass energy can be released via combustion or by rotting it so that it can produce methane as a result. However, what has to be put forward is that though the bioenergy from the plants can be renewable, such energy will exacerbate global warming and cause some health problems during the process of its being burned as a fuel. From this, it can be discovered that there is still some potential risks to use the bioenergy even if it is renewable. I have to say that though the bioenergy will exert some detrimental impacts on the environment, it still has some advantages when compared with other non-renewable energies. For one part, non-renewable energies are limited and they can only be used in a one day, which determines that they can not meet the needs of the energy demands at all. For another, those non-renewable energies might create more serious pollution toward the environment in the due time.

As to the concrete way to use the bioenergy, it can be stated in this way that to collect the methane in a sealed container in the first beginning and it can then produce a small flame for cooking. Methane is what can convert the organic components of waste from human beings, animals and plants into a combustible gas so that it is conducive to people’s health and the environmental protection. Furthermore, methane can be gained in various ways, like the feces and urine of both animals and human beings, food debris, plant materials including hogweed and so on (What’s Your Impact. 2016). And the process of using the methane is usually by constructing household methane tank and the prerequisite to build a methane tank is to guarantee that there is enough waste that can be used as the source of fuel for daily production. To put the process of using the methane more specifically, it primarily involves the entrance of organic matters and water, the release of methane out of material fermentation, the gas’ rise to the top, the gas’ instillation to the house under the use of tube, the removing of the residue to be used as fertilizer together with the combustion of the gas as cooking fuels (Jim Burgel. 2015).

Last but not the least comes other ‘smart’ features that I would also like to include in your new home so that the new home can be healthier. Detailed speaking, apart from the solar thermal energy and bioenergy mentioned minutely in the above, I would also like to use the photovoltaics, wind power, geothermal, hydroelectricity, hydrogen fuel cells at the same time. There is no doubt that the use of these renewable energies can, to a certain degree, help provide other useful services for the new house so that all the daily necessities can be well ensured under the joint efforts of those energies altogether.

Conclusion

To sum up, a natural conclusion can be drawn that the new house built in the extremely remote area can become healthier and warmer because it has reduced the dependency on traditional fuels which will cause pollution and destruction to the environment. Though this new house is in the remote area, the thoughts of its using renewable energy for daily necessities including cooling, heating, lighting, cooking fuels as well as other small appliances have to be referred to by today’s people living in the metropolis. If people living in the metropolis continue to use the traditional energies as in the past, then they will be confronted with a situation where the environment will take revenge on people due to their gradual damaging it. That is to say, the process of people’s damaging the environment is actually the process of causing damage to them in that people and the environment are mutually related with one another.
