The question of whether that characters control their authors or that authors control their characters has been an old topic. On the one hand, it involves the traditional method of literary criticism - biographical criticism. But on the other hand, the author's status has been degraded recently. In this article, it is to argue that authors control their characters in the literary works.

The author's life experience and personal feelings plays an important role in the creation of his or her characters. The writer's unforgettable emotional experience is at first an important factor to shape his or her psychological process. And this stabilized psychological process undoubtedly shapes the writer's personal life experience personal feelings, and personality, which are the important factors in the literary creation.  These affective experiences are often generalized into the unconscious structure schema. Coupled with other external factors as the stimulants, there is the formation of individual unique world view and the schema of life. This kind of schema once formed can provide strong support to the writer's entire artistic creation activity by the assimilation, and integration of those external stimuli that interfere with the creation of authors. A good work lies in the shape of the characters. But the character does not come out of nowhere. In the process of shaping the characters, the author must have a rich life in mind which is very critical to the success of the novel. It is because that in shaping the characters, there must be some reference to the character model. For example, exquisite sensitiveness of Dickens and feeling of universal sympathy with human nature makes still life of his scenes reflect the dominant emotion of the character (Sanders 56).  Thus, it explains why the characters and works of one another have similar writing style and theme. And it also explains why it is important to study the life of the writer before the study of his or her works. The life experience can help me to find much valuable information about the writer, so as to understand the formation of works, and study how the writer's personal life is expressed through the literary creation. he unforgettable life experience, and emotional experience of writer, such as childhood unforgettable experience, and traumatic emotional experience can have major on the work, such as the influence of Maupassant 's life experience and psychological feelings of an orphan on his creation works.

However, it is important to understand the relationship of control between writers and characters in his or her works is not reflected in the direct manner. Although there exists the corresponding or controlling relationship, some writers will change their life trajectory in mirroring the experience and fate of the characters. For example, Megalomania and paranoia share the writer’s mirror (Atwood 62).Through the reading of the works, I can sometimes find clues to the writer's life experiences, especially the writer's personal life history and spiritual history, which often flicker in the details of the works. This is different from the writing style of biography, which is more convenient for the author to pour out their real experiences and thoughts. Some writers will use special experience, or emotional experience deeply branded in memory as an unexplained complex, but when they enter the literary writing state, they will unconsciously give this emotion to a character in the work in a covered form. Based on this, the authors are to design the character, rigid or soft, good or evil, emotions, arrange their life path, and design its future destiny. These images become the sustenance of the writer's thoughts and feelings, and I  can also find the real mentality of the writers, from which to obtain the enlightenment of life. In addition, there is writers’ temporary or even momentary emotion or mentality into the works, resulting in the work to be a particular emotional expression. For example, author can draw on the Christian literature traditions and ancient Greek literary tradition, only to create those impressive characters. Novelist Charles Dickens, not only takes what they see and hear as the basis of the story, but also mixed his novel more or less with social commentary (Sanders 56). These practices should be considered a conscious process of writing.  This is seemingly abrupt and strange, but in fact, after a closer study, it is the writers’ occasional like, but unexpected interest in the former events. Therefore, the capture of the life of the writer through the bits of hints and trace the emotional feelings through the thread, perhaps is the key to its creative creation.

More important, it is the writer's life values and virtue which is expressed through the characters in the works and the author’s language and writing skills makes the depiction of characters possible. Writer’s life values and virtue tends to be the themes and the soul of works. And his ideas are forming position of the work. I can follow the characters of the works and enters the network weaved by writers, and accepted the writer's standpoint and values. For the artistic image namely the character of literary work to be classical and typical, it is based on the creator or author’s rich experience for the life, society, history, culture. The more profound experience, the more vivid. Thus the author is capable of creating the aesthetic context and revealing the essence of life and the meaning beyond race and nation. The classical literary works shows the lasting belief, and willpower of the author, by focusing the people at the bottom of the society. the human care and compassion of  the fate of the mother land, the concern of future of human, attention, then knowledge, humanities, independent spirit, freedom of thought and etc. For example, during an Interview with Chris Abani, a famous African writer and author of six famous novels, he talked about how Soyinka handles the character to express local mythic questions (Goyal 228). language can be beautiful: one is the external beauty arising from harmony of words and sentence; the other is the inherent semantic and mental beauty expressed by the language. These two kinds of beauty are also necessary for the vivid depiction of characters, image creation, metaphor creation and synthesis, which is the highest state of language art.

However, the phenomenon of character controlling the author indeed exist but it can be explained as a psychological phenomenon and may have negative influence on the whole writing itself, although it may make the characters themselves more vivid.  Someone argue that it seems that these characters in the writing, especially the writing of excellent writers seem to have their own lives, and remain out of the author’s control. For example, Margaret Atwood a much respected English writer in Canada describes St. Matthew as “clutching a pen while a rather thuggish angel dictates to him what he must write down”(38) and describe writing as entering “in an empty theatre before any play or film had started, waiting for the characters to appear”(15).  They are so fascinated by the characterization of their characters, and even to the point of infatuation, that they decided to abandon the original plot to describe the character for the sake of character. This makes the story to deviate from the scheduled trajectory. This is the so-called 'out of the author control' or that the character controls the author. The possible reason from the psychological perspective is that the initial motivation of creation is due to their own imperfect but desire for perfection. In other words, in reality the author of the literary work is relatively imperfect compared to the characters he created. The realm of art in the works is not the world of life, but the world in which the author would like to believe as the world human live in. It's hard to say whether it's good or not. For the good side, it is to make works more vivid. But the problem is too much obsession with the characters make the work imbalanced. If the writer blindly exaggerated the role of main characters, the main story plot and structure will remain undeveloped. It is because that the character can not replace the solid story structure. So for some authors, this is actually a disaster.

To sum up, authors control their characters in the literary works as the author's life experience and personal feelings, life values and virtue, language and writing skills plays an important role in the creation of his or her characters in the indirect manner. And character controlling the author is a psychological phenomenon and may have negative influence on the whole story.
